Getting Around
Cascais is superbly connected. The train line to Lisbon is one of the most scenic commuter routes in Europe, and buses connect you to Sintra and the surrounding area with ease. Here's everything you need to know.
Train to Lisbon

- Journey time: Approximately 35β40 minutes
- Frequency: Trains every 20β30 minutes throughout the day
- Cost: Very affordable β one of the best-value scenic train rides in Europe
- Station: Cascais train station is a 5β8 minute walk from Casa Rosa House
- Tip: The Linha de Cascais runs along the coast β sit on the right side heading to Lisbon for sea views
Bus to Sintra
π Cascais β Sintra (Scotturb Bus 403)
- Journey time: Approximately 40β50 minutes through Guincho and the Sintra hills
- Frequency: Buses several times per day β check current timetables
- Route highlight: Passes the spectacular Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe
- Tip: Book the full day β Sintra deserves at least 5β6 hours
Getting to Porto
The quickest option. Fly from Lisbon (LIS) to Porto (OPO) β the flight takes under an hour. Multiple daily connections. Take the train from Cascais to Lisbon airport using the Oriente connection.
Take the Alfa Pendular from Lisbon (Oriente or Santa ApolΓ³nia stations) to Porto CampanhΓ£. Journey time approximately 2h45. Comfortable and scenic β a great option for a day trip or overnight.
Drive north on the A1 motorway from Lisbon to Porto β about 3 hours. Toll charges apply. Car rental is available in Cascais and at Lisbon airport.
Local Taxis & Ride Sharing
Taxis are widely available in Cascais and reasonably priced. Uber also operates in the area. For shorter journeys around town, tuk-tuks are a fun and popular option that kids especially enjoy.
